Brigitte Trafford to head up comms at Lloyds Banking Group

Lloyds Banking Group has hired Brigitte Trafford as Group Communications Director.
Brigitte will take responsibility for all of the Group’s external media relations, as well as internal communications. She will report to the Group’s Chief Executive, Eric Daniels. She replaces Shane O'Riordain, whose decision to leave the bank was reported on Gorkana PR News yesterday.
Brigitte has a long track record both as a consultant and in managing communications for larger companies. She is currently the Managing Partner of Burghley Communications, after a spell as a Senior Consultant at M: Communications, which she joined in 2008.
She was formerly Group Communications Director and a member of the executive board of ITV. She was recruited by chief executive Charles Allen in 2004, soon after the listing of the merged Granada and Carlton. During her tenure she led communications during a change in leadership and two unsuccessful bids for the Company - one from an Apax-led consortium and one from Virgin Media, which was halted when Sky bought a 17.5% blocking stake.
Before ITV, Brigitte was for seven years with Dow Jones, first in London and then in New York as global head of communications. Prior to that she was head of communications at Cable & Wireless Europe.
“We are delighted to have appointed someone of Brigitte’s calibre to help us define and implement our key communications programmes over the next several years,” said Eric Daniels.
“This is an enormously exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to playing my part in building Lloyds Banking Group’s reputation as the pre-eminent bank in the UK,” added Brigitte.
